JUBILEE STAMPS
❖ ISSI'ES FOR DOMINIONS AND COLONIES One of the ways in which his Majesty's Jubilee will be marked is by the issue of commemorative postage stamps, and as King George is such a keen collector this is not inappropriate. The authorities have now approved the issue for 43 colonial territories. One design will be used, consisting of a distant view of Windsor
Castle with a crowned portrait of the King inset in a medallion in the upper right-hand corner. The design was specially selected by his Majesty from a number submitted to him. The stamps are being printed in two colours, the name of the issuing territory to be inserted at the top. Each colony is to have a set of four denominations, and the stamps will be placed on sale simultaneously on May 6, and will continue in use until December 31, when all stocks remaining on hand will be withdrawn and destroyed. During the period of use the particular values in the commemorative set will supersede those of the ordinary current issues. Certain of the major colonies and dominions are to have special issues. The issue for Australia is lo comprise
throe values. 2d, 3d, and Is 4d. The stamps will be large in formation and the design will include the King's head. The New Zealand issue, which is also to comprise three values, Ad, Id, and 6d, has been designed by Mr J. Berry, of Wellington. The frame, which is illustrated, includes a Southern Cross and Maori carving in the border. His Majesty's portrait will occupy the right-hand side, while the Queen's portrait will appear on the left.
