It is anticipated that the new plant of Auckland Coal Suppliers, Ltd., at Onehunga, for making briquettes will be in operation early next month. Final portions of machinery are to be installed on their arrival from England later this month. A shipment of 300 tons of bitumen—the first instalment of an order of 1200 tons—for use in the manufacture of briquettes has arrived in Auckland from Tampico, Mexico. It is proposed to use it with Wilton slack. The industry, which is a new one, will give employment to 15 men as soon as it is started.
