KAIAPOI BOROUGH COUNCIL

♦ The Kaiapoi Borough Council met last night, when there were present: The Mayor (the Rev. W. H. A, Vickery), Councillors A. E. Brown, C. M. Williams. J. Hirst, F. Thome, J. W. Barnard, H. Rinaldi, E. Gray. J. D. Williams, and H. Linklater. The New Zealand Society for the Protection of Women and Children, Christchurch, wrote asking if the council would again contribute* towards the society's funds. A donation of one guinea was made. The financial statement showed receipts since last meeting of £464 6s Bd. the credit bank balance as £585 10s 6d, and accounts passed for payment as £316 lis 6d. A deputation was received from the Kaiapoi Unemployed Workers' Union asking the council to support the union's application to the Unemployment Board for an increase of 10s a week to relief wc« kers. The council decided to support the application. It was decided to instruct the borough solicitors to proceed with the conversion of the council's loans. At the request of the Minister for Internal Affairs it was decided to observe fire prevention week in the borough from March 18. Crs. Earnard, Hirst, and Linklater were appointed a committee to scrutinise the borough, electoral roll.
