RELIEF WORKERS' TIME OFF
TO THS EDITOH OF THE PRESS. Sir,—ln answer to "Ratepayer," who has written about relief workers' time off, he has not had to report to the Labour Bureau with his form. Let us hope he doesn't have to; as he will get a shock. I have been in with my returns, and have had to wait for nearly two hours to get my form in. Also he says that relief men do not like work. Can he prove that? I left the unemployed to go harvesting, and made £4 Is 2d in. the month I
was out—a loss to me of nearly £3. Also, when I came back to register on the unemployed, I had to stand down a week, and on the top of that I had to pay 5s levy instead of Is, which I would have naid if I had kept on relief. ' I went to the Labour Bureau in my own time. Now, there are five windows there, but only three are in use for our returns; so if "Ratepayer" can get his form in in an hour he is going some! He apparently classes all relief workers as no account, or he has not been to the Labour Bureau. A trip there might surprise him. You lose nearly a day by the time you get in from Prebbleton, on which day you may miss a job outside the relief.— Yours, etc., RELIEF W'ORKER. Prebbleton, March 5, 1935.
