♦— . ORCHESTRAL SOCIETY The annual meeting of members of. the Kaikoura Orchestral Society was held in the Masonic Hall on Monday night, Mr W. A. Nelson (president) presiding over a good attendance. The balance-sheet showed a satisfactory financial position. The following officers were elected:—Patron, Mr A. Browne; president, Mr W. A. Nelson; vice-presidents, Mrs R. Hugonin, Messrs E. Wallace and A. B. Clark; secretary, Miss P. Wallace; conductor, Mr W. F. Perrin; deputy-conductor, Mr W. A. Nelson; auditor, Mr C. A. Jensen; librarian. Mr E. A. W. Smith; pianist, Miss E. Mackle; deputypianist, Miss A. E. Flower; musical selector and arranger of programmes, Mr W. F. Perrin: committee, Messrs W. R. Teape, E. W. Flower, E. A. W. Smith and executive officers; trustees, Messrs A. Brown, F. J. Monk, and E. A. W. Smith. A vote of thanks was passed to Miss M Mackle for her services as secretary during her term of office. It was decided to commence practice on March 18. Mr and Mrs Nelson, provided a dainty supper. Bowling Club A special and the annual general meeting of the Kaikoura Bowling Club took place at the Takahanga Pavilion on Monday night. Mr T. H. Knight (president) presiding over a good attendance. The president submitted rules for the governing of the club, which, with slight amendments, were adopted. The annual meeting was then held, when the report and balance-sheet were submitted, the latter showing receipts to have been £3B Is and expenditure £24 8s 7d, whilst the overdraft had also been reduced. Arrangements were made for suitably entertaining the Seddon bowlers who will visit Kaikoura on Saturday next. i The following officers were elected:—President. Mr J. A. Johnston- vice-presidents, Messrs A. Howard 'and S. T. Harris; secretary and treasurer, Mr T. H. Knight; committee, Messrs J. Washington, A. W. Barker. H. Miller. H. Hansen, R. Strahl, Andrew Stewart; auditor, Mr G, G. Newton: delegate to Marlborough Centre. M> A. W. O. Rentier; women's committee, Mesdames J. A. Johnston (convener), T. H. Knight. A. Howard, J. Washington, F. H. Hayward, A. W. Ball, and J. Lovett. with power to add. Mr T. H. Knight expressed thanks for the support given him whilst occupying the presidency, and paid a tribute to Mr H. Wilson, who had given splendid services as secretary and treasurer. He said it was pleasing to report that the club was better off bv £2O this year compared with the previous year, whilst keen interest had been shown in the game throughout the season. The new players had shown wonderful improvement. He wished his successor a successful term of office. It was decided to close the season on March 23, and the executive was empowered to spend up to the limit of the overdraft on improving the green. The president and treasurer were empowered to operate on the bank account. It was recommended that entrants be invited for the pairs competitions next season. Presentation Following the meeting of members of the Kaikoura Bowling Club on Monday night, a pleasant little function took place, when members gathered round the table to do honour to Mr J. Washington, who had attained his seventy-ninth year. Mr T H. Knight stated that two women had asked him to make a presentation to Mr Washington, one of the club's keenest and best players. A birthdav cake shaped in the form of a bowling green, with the bowls and kitties placed in position, was then presented to Mr Washington. Messrs J Davidson and J. A. Johnston also eulogised the splendid services of the guest and wished him long life and happiness. __
