SETTLEMENT OF PACIFIC
<■ DR. PETER BUCK'S VIEWS iI'KESS ASSOCIATION TELEGRAM.) WELLINGTON, March 4. Dr. Peter H. Euck and Mrs Buck arrived this morning and were met by Mr H. R. 11. Balncavis, secretary to the Minister of Native Affairs. In an interview, Dr. Buck spoke of his work during the last few years, and particularly during the last four months in the Gambier Islands. He will spend about a month in New Zealand, visiting Taranaki relatives before returning to Honolulu about Apri] 6. Dr. Buck said 'the old theory and probability of the settlement of the Pacific to the cast and north arising from feuds and overcrowding seemed to be borne out. The Society or Tahitian group had been the hub, and the defeated branches went off, very often to save their lives.
