FISH RESEARCH

v RESIGNATION OF A SUBCOMMITTEE ANTAGONISM ALLEGED TO THE I'ltESS.l TIMARU, March 4. Stating that their position had been rendered untenable because of the continuous antagonism of the chairman of the council (Mr J. McDonald) to research work, apparently with the consent of the majority of the members, the research sub-committee consisting of Messrs C. H. Coxhead and S. A. Watt resigned that office at a meeting of the council of the South Canterbury Acclimatisation Society to-night. "At the time of our appointment," said Mr Coxhead, "we obtained the assurance of the council's support, in which the present chairman joined. The promised support, however, has resolved itself into one member supplying us with scales, our first and paramount requirement. It must be obvious to all that the results from the central research committee cannot be expected until the necessary data have been supplied." The chairman: Are you definite about it? Mr Coxhead: Quite definite. The resignation was accepted, the chairman stating that the society had not had much of value from the sub-committee. The appointment of a new committee was held over.
