' * ; INCREASE IN JANUARY MEETING OF BOARD For the lour weeks ended January 27—a period that included the New Year holidays, the school excursions, and the visit of the Duke of Gloucester —tram and trolley-bus earnings increased by £566 over those for the corresponding period of 1934. stated the report of the works and traffic committee to the Christchurch Tramway Board yesterday. The revenue increased by £llß6 and the operating expenses by £620. The largest percentage of increase in the numbers of passengers carried was on the trolleybus routes to North Beach and Richmond. The petrol omnibus operations showed a deficiency for the period of £B3, an improvement of £8 over the figures for 1934. There were present: Messrs E. J. Howard, M.P. (deputy-chairman), J. Mathison, G. Manning, C. E. Jones, W. J. Walter and G. T. Thurston. The works and traffic committee reported that tenders were invited for the supply of petrol for 12 months and six tenders were received. The tender of the Associated Motorists' Petrol Company, at Is 7d a gallon, was accepted.

Messrs Mathison, Paiiane, and Walter were reappointed the board's representatives on the committee of the Tramway Social Club for the year. The board had agreed with the Paparua County Council to bear the cost of a light to be placed in the centre of the road at the Sockburn terminus. A request from the principal of the Burwood Girls' Home that a shelter be erected at Buxton's corner was referred to the works and traffic committee. A special resolution giving authority to proceed with the raising of £74,000, the London Renewal Loan. 1934, for a term not exceeding 30 years and two months from February 1, 1935, and the cancellation of the debenture of £74,000 hypothecated to the Union Bank of Australia, Ltd., and the issue in lieu thereof of debentures securing in the aggregate a similar sum was passed.
