POULTRY KEEPING
MKKTING OF SOUTH ISLAND ASSOCIATION The council of the South Island Poultry, Pigeon, and Canary Association met yesterday. Mr G. H. Bradford, the president, was in the chair, and there was a full attendance of councillors. The Nelson Poultry Association advised that they would support the art union if a permit was secured. Tl\e Oamaru Canary and Cage Bird Club advised that their show would be held on March 22 instead of March 29. and they forwarded their show schedule for passing. The schedule was agreed to by the council. The Dunedin Young Bird Specialist Club advised that they were agreeable to the Chrislchurch Young Bird Show being held on the same dates as theirs, for entries for their show were mainly received from Otago breeders. They also enquired if they were in order in placing exhibits entered in a wrong class in the correct class at their show and having them judged. It was decided to advise them that the association had no rule on the question, such being solely a club question, but the council expressed the opinion that for a club to take the action suggested was opening up a channel for disputes and protests at shows.
The Dunedin Club enquired if the council could grant championships for competition at their show, and it was decided to point out to them that rule 46 gave the council no power to do so. The Christchurch Poultry Club applied for permission to hold a combined young bird show on March 29 and 30. Permission was granted, and the schedule for the show was passed by the council. 'The secretary submitted a draft of the form to be sent to clubs giving particulars of championships allotted to them, and such was passed. The South Island Poultry Association wrote further, relating to the agreement with the canary breeders in the North Island, to the effect that the agreement between the Cage Bird Federation and themselves had not been satisfied yet, but as soon as the necessary form had been signed by both associations a copy would be forwarded to the South Island Poultry Association for reference purposes. The secretary was instructed to write to the Christchurch Canary Club and explain that a conference with them would be arranged as soon as the reply from the North Island Association came to hand. CHRISTCHURCH CLUB FORTNIGHTLY MEETING The fortnightly meeting of the Christchurch Poultry, Pigeon, and Canary Club was held last evening in the Fanciers' Hall. Mr G. H. Bradford presided over a large attendance of members. Votes of condolence were passed to Mrs W. Austin and Mrs A. J. Smith in the death of their husbands.
Mr H. Williams wrote accepting the position of sub-patron and making a donation of 10s 6d to the club. A vote of thanks was passed to Mr Williams. The South Island Old English Game Club wrote offering seven special cups for the June show. A vote of thanks was passed. Reports were received from the schedule committee, the conference of cat clubs, and from rabbit clubs, all dealing with the show, and each were adopted. The cookery and needlework classes in connexion with the young bird show were left to the women's committee. • Nominations were received for judges for the June show, and those for the utility sections were left to the New Zealand Utility Poultry Club and Leghorn and Minorca Club. I* has been decided to hold the young bird show on March 29 and 30, in the Central Mart. 213 Cashel street.
