CHRISTCHURCH SPORTS CLUB ANNUAL REPORT Considerable improvement in the standard of boxing in Canterbury is noted in the annual report of the Christchurch Amateur Boxing and Sports Club, which will be presented to members at the annual meeting of the club on Monday. The most noticeable feature of the season was the increase in the number of entrants for the various tournaments that the club has promoted. Boxing schools in the city have been very active, the report continues, and the coaches are to be congratulated on the high standard of amateur boxing that has resulted from their sound training. The response made by the schools to the various tournaments held during the season was most gratifying to the committee. Ten tournaments were held during the year, four of which were professional bouts. "Since the Marlborough association could not receive our team in June, and again in August, after all arrangements had been made for its departure, the return visit to Marlborough could not be made. However, owing to the heavy travelling expenses involved, and the financial loss always associated with these visits, it is. in the opinion of the committee, inadvisable to continue them," states the report. An extensive membership campaign was conducted during the year, and resulted in the club's roll being doubled and donations amounting to £37 16s being received. A small profit was made for the last 12 months, which is regarded by the committee as being very satisfactory when compared with the loss of nearly £SO during tho previous year.
