* LINWOOD CLUB ANNUAL MEETING The forty-eighth annual meeting of the Linwood Rugby Football Club was held in the Canterbury Rugby Union rooms last evening, the president, Mr F. D. Kesteven, presiding over a iar.ne attendance. Mr Kesteven said the year for the clul) had been very successful, both financially and in the competitions. The under 18 team had won their competition, and the second grade it am were runners-up in theirs. He sympathised with the under 16 team, who, halfway through the season, had ?o forfeit 6i points for inadvertently playing an over-age member. He said that it had been rather hard on ilie team, and suggested that it was a matter to be taken up with the Canterbury Rugby Union. The finances of the club were sound, and liabilities were nil. The efforts of the committee in improving the club rooms had been much appreciated. He urged the first, tiftetn to get into form lor the cumins jubilee. The club captain (Mr H. E. Davis) thanked Mr VV. J. Loader for his generous donation of books for the club library. The report and balance-sheet were adopted without comment. The excess of income over expenditure for tiie year was £25 16s lid. The election of officers was as fol-lows:-President, Mr F. D. Kesteven; vice-presidents, Messrs A. Barrett, J. Darruch. T. G. Fox, C. VV. Hervey, \V. J. Loader, and H. Wilson; captain. Mill. E. Davis; deputy-captain, Mr W. Shaw: honorary secretary, Mr N. McClelland; honorary treasurer, Mr K. (.). V.'h.te; delegates to Rugby Union, Messrs M. Gunderson, H. K. Davis, W. J. Cowles, and J. White; honorary auditor. Mr A. J. Allard; training -..•ound steward. Mr J. Edmonds; senior coach, Mr A. E. Phillips. The following were recommended to the incoming committee for selection for the various other coaching positions: Mi.s.-rs W. Hickinbottom, W. King. B. Stewart, W. J. Cowles, G. Burson, .1 E, Stanley, J. Dawson, F. Pengelly, 1!. Yickery, and J. Darroch. During the election of officers, it wa.- decided that the number of vice.ru'f■sitients be reduced to six. Opening day was fixed for March !jh. It was reported that for the Easter holidays, the committee was practicj ally certain that a triangular tourna- ! mi nt could be arranged with Union , 'Dunedin) and Zingari (Timaru), the mutches to take place at either Dune- ■■ clin or Timaru.
Mr C. W. Hervey presented Mr Haruiny. the captain of the under 16 team, with the Hervey Cup, and sympathised with him on the team's hard Hick. Mr Hording thanked the donor. Mr A. E. Phillips was elected a lifemember of the club. Several members spoke of his good work in helping th_" young players. The meet in v» closed with a vote of thanks to Mr F. D. Kesteven, president of the club for many years.
