NATIONAL TRUST

PRINCE OF WALES PAYS TRIBUTE I'RESER VTX(; EXG LAN D'S COUNTRYSIDE (BRITISH OFFICIAL WIRELBS -.) (Received March 3, 5.5 p.m.) RUGBY, March 1. Within 45 minutes of his return to London from his holiday on the Continent the Prince of. Wales was attending the anniversary dinner of the National Trust for Places of Historic Interest or of Natural Beauty.

He paid a warm tribute to the value of this organisation which, he pointed out, was a purely private body registered as a charity and not receiving any Government grant. Nevertheless, it worked harmoniously with the Office of Works. He said that the National Trust was everyone's concern, since it was doing so much to preserve those features of British life which were of such value to those who lived in the great cities, and indeed to all who loved the English countryside. Although the Trust had acquired 17 new properties last year, modern conditions made it essential that a much greater number of open spaces should be protected and acquired for the nation.
