SOCIAL EVENING

Bl RWOOD SCHOOL The euchre party and dance organised by the Burwood School Committee. in aid of the school funds, was well attended on Saturday. Mr H. Rowse was in charge of the cards, and Mr R. C. Vincent acted as master of ceremonies for the dance. Mrs W. B. Willoughbv played the music. Mrs F. Neale and Mr T. Parkes won a Monte Carlo. The winners of the cards were Mrs D. Haffenden and Mr, li. Pawson ("San Remo," .Fendalton) to honour Miss Susie Pritchett. whose marriage will take place shortly. During the evening, Mr Pawson, on behalf of the club, presented a silver savoury dish to Miss Pritchett and wished her much happiness in the future.

Miss J. Leckie, another member of the club, also received a small gift from the club, in honour of her approaching marriage. Songs, partsongs, and glees were sung, and the guests spent a very pleasant time.

TWILIGHT DANCE

NORTH BEACH SURF CLUB The twilight dance, held in the North Beach Hall on Saturday evening, was the tenth of a series organised by the social committee of the North Beach Surf Club in aid of the club funds. There was a record attendance. In addition to local residents, a number of visitors were present from Christchurch, Aranui, Belfast, and Central Brighton. The hall was decorated with black and white streamers, coloured lights, and lighted Chinese lanterns. Percy Butler's Serenaders played the music, and Mr L. R. Moore acted as master of ceremonies. Mr L. R. Moore, in thanking the patrons for their attendance, said the social committee had arranged that the dance next Saturday would be a floral one.

GIFT EVENING

On Saturday evening Miss Joyce Chaplin was hostess at an enjoyable gift evening given at her parents' residence, Hendon street, St Albans, in honour of the approaching marriage of Miss Hazel Boakes. The time was spent pleasantly with dances and games. The music for the dancing was supplied by Miss Joyce Soanes, Mr Chaplin, Harry Tonkin, and Mr Herb. Brown. A clarinet solo was given by Mr Chaplin, and a song was sung by Miss Boakes. The winners of the competitions were Misses Nellie Nuttall, Muriel Thompson, Gwen McDonald, Messrs Harry Tonkin, Harry Grieve, and Herb. Brown. During the evening each guest was presented with a lucky charm.
