N.Z. RAILWAYS MAGAZINE
* March tarings another acceptable issue of the "New Zealand Railways Magazine," which continues to encourage this country's talented writers of prose and verse to offer their best. Mr James Cowan's famous New Zealander this time is Professor J. Macmillan Brown. In "Railways All Ways" Mr Ken Alexander, in humorous prose and verse, with droll sketches, supplies many merry quips. Mr O. N. Gillespie claims' truth for the heading of his brightly-written
article "Trentham: the World's Best Racecourse," which is excellently illustrated. With another instalment of "From a Smoker Window," Mr G. G. Stewart introduces New Zealanders to some very thrilling glimpses of their country. In a breezy sketch, "Another Railway Champion," "Playboy" reveals the admirable sport side of Mr R. W. McVilly, formerly general manager of New Zealand Railways. "Call of Flock House" sets out the attractive openings for New Zealand returned soldiers* sons in qualifying for satisfactory life on the land. The well-maintained regular features include "Wisdom of the Maori," "Pictures of New Zealand Life," "Among the Books," and "Women's Section." The magazine, in its new form, has proved so popular that the management has decided to extend the size to 64 pages, beginning with the April issue.
