Founded 28 years ago by a body of influential Auckland business men interested in the prohibition movement, the Pacific Club closed its career on Friday night. No valedictory gathering was held. Dwindling membership is the cause of the club's demise. In the club's most prosperous days there were 270 names on the roll, but' in course of time many of the older members died or retired from business. Younger men did not come forward in sufficient numbers to make up the loss, and lately, when the roll had shrunk to 50, it was- decided to close down, although the club was still financial. . „.
