AEROPLANE ACCIDENT FEARED
♦ SEARCH IN NORTHERN RHODESIA GOVERNOR'S WIFE MISSING CAPE TOWN, March 1. Grave anxiety is felt for the safety of Lady Young, wife of the Governor of Northern Rhodesia (Sir Hubert Young) and Dr. Kirby, a Government medical officer. Lady Young left Livingstone in the morning, flying her own aeroplane and accompanied by Dr. Kirby, for Lusaka, where the Governor is staying at present. The machine was sighted an hour after leaving, but since then there has been no trace of it. The fear is expressed that Lady Young, who was recently ill with malaria, was overcome by weakness and crashed. Sir Hubert Young flew over thickly-wooded country between Choma and Monze searching for traces of the missing aeroplane, and police patrols are visiting the native villages for possible news. The Rhodesia railways are sending 100 men to join in the search, while 200 men of the Northern Rhodesia Regiment have arrived at Livingstone.
INTENSIVE SEARCH (Received March 3, 9.30 p.m.) CAPE TOWN, March 2. To-day's search ' for Lady Young failed. Three hundred searched all last night, and five Air Force aeroplanes joined the search. The gravest anxiety prevails, but the Governor, Sir Hubert Young, is sanguine.
