♦ VAN PRAAG AND CASE RIDE WELL MEETING AT MONICA PARK Lionel van Praag and Dick Case, 'he riders from overseas, gave followers of broadsiding some thrilling moments at the Monica Park Speedway on Saturday evening. Speeding round the track without once throttling down, they were always spectacular. In the four races in which they met, they slid round the corners with scarcely a length separating them and raced along the straight together. Each won two races. Van Praag had a fairly severe fall when entering the straight to fight out the finish of the A grade consolation race with Case, but he was not injured and was able to ride match races with Case later. Van Praag won two match races and Case one. Van Praag tried to break the record of lmin 17 3-ssec for four laps flying start, established by Squib Burton in 1930, but. he failed by 1 4-sscc, his time being lmin 19 2-ssec. Hobson again proved himself the best of the local riders, winning a heat and the final of the A grade handicap and a heat and the final of <he Dunlop handicap, a four lap race. The results were:—

Dunlop (4sec) and R. Dumpleton (6sec) also started. Dumpleton's machine failed in the second lap and Dunlop fell heavily in front of the stand in the last lap. Dunlop injured a leg slightly. EVENTS AT AUCKLAND MATTSON IN BRILLIANT FORM (TRUSS A.SSOCUTIOX TELEGRAM.) AUCKLAND, March 3. Five HiriUinsr duels between A. Malison, of Auckland, the New Zealand cinder truck champion, and Ji. Taylor, the plucky Australian rider, kept about 4000 spectators at a high Mitch of excitement nt the bruadsiding meeting at the Western Springs .Speedway. En eh time the New Zealand chumpion proved his superiority over the Australian. These two riders were opposed to each other in three match races, all of which produced broadsiding of international standard, and they again met in tho finals of two (.♦■her events. Particularly fast times were recorded, both riders breaking the Dominion record for three laps, Mattson achieving this on more than one occasion The Auckland rider's best time. -was 58 2-ssec for three laps. His fastest single lap was covered in 19sec. which was 2-ssee faster than his best lap at the openin" meeting this season. Mattson probably ha! never been riding with such unerring skill as he is at present. Even the 'track which was humping badly on one bend' could not curb his machine. Besides winning the three match races in brilliant fashion" Mattson won the scratch race and the Suu> mer Handicap.
