At Sydenham Park the home team opened with Bellamy and Gaston. The scoring was slow fur a time, but Gasson hit Read for a tine six. and the scoring brightened. Yates held Gasson at mid-off when tho total was 31, and howled Bellamy at 48, but then Oliver, with Patrick running for him, set up a good partnership with Butferficld. Oliver was aggressive, and the 100 went up for an hour and a half's play. Butterfield, who had been rather restrained, was bowled at 11.->, and Hamilton fell to a catch by Cobden after making a single. When Oliver missed a ball from Read that he tried to stop with his pads, live were down for 131. Smith and Gray then set up the best partnership of the innings. When Smith was 37 he turned a ball to fine leg, and was given out lbw, but Cromb brought the bastman back. Gray was caught at 210 and Smith went at 219 after giving a sound, but enterprising display for his 58. The last four wickets fell cheaply, and the innings closed after three hours batting for 236. Stout and Kennedy opened cautiously to the bowling of Spong and Patrick. Patrick bowled Kennedy at 31, and at the same figure Smith held a good catch which disposed of Stout. McLaughlin was joined by Read, and in the 15 minutes remaining the pair added 22. of which Read claimed l'.>. Scoi es :--- .SYDENHAM First Innings F. W. Bellamy, b Yates •- . *» If 1". A.
