--—♦ Mr Edgar Stead returned t» Christchurch from Wellington yesterday morning. Mr J. Douglas Perrett, a wellknown Auckland artist, is visiting Christchurch. The Hons. W. Hayward, T. O'Byrne and R. Moore, members of the Legislative Council, arrived from Wellington by the Wahine yesterday morning. Mr W. F. Bisset. advertising manager of the "Southland Times,' arrived in Christchurch yesterday and is staying at the Clarendon Hotel. Major C. F. T. Cochrane, a retireil army officer of England, who has travelled extensively in the last few years, is staying at the United Service Hotel. He will leave Christchurch to-day with his wife for Dunedin and the Southern Lakes.
Mr A. G. Williams, a member of the Board of Governors of the Christchurch Technical College, was welcomed to a meeting of the board last evening. He had not been able to attend recent meetings because of injuries he suffered in an accident. Members of the staff of the Bank of Australasia met yesterday alter noon to make a presentation totne retiring manager, Mr A. \. v\m Chester. The accountant, Mr A. JTvson, presented Mr Wmchestei with a travelling rug and slipper* on behalf of the start, and spoke 01 the high esteem in which the rein ing manager had been held. Mr W" Chester renlied, thanking the stan for the loyal co-operation it nau given him.
