OYSTERS AGAIN IN CITY
♦ —■ —• SHIPMENT IN GOOD CONDITION SEASON CONTINUED AFTER INTERRUPTION Oysters are again available in Christchurch alter the interruption of the season caused by the hot weather. When the season began on February 1 the first shipment received from Stewart Island was in good condition; but a second and a third shipment were not encouraging to the wholesale firms as many of the oysters were dead by the time they arrived here. There were no further shipments till yesterday. Fishmongers in the city reported yesterday that the oysters were in excellent condition; and it is expected that there will be no trouble with shipments during the rest of the sea-
son, unless the hot weather of yesterday continues. The difficulty of keeping the oysters during the long journey from the south is likely to recur whenever there is a particularly warm February, and it has been suggested that the shipments should come by sea in specially made tanks. Such a scheme, however, involves the difficulty of providing suitable cargoes for the vessels on the return journey.
