-—-♦ — RANGIORA HIGH SCHOOL ANNUAL SPORTS The annual swimming sports « f tlle Kanel- - High School pupils were held in the school baths yesterday afternoon. The weather was ideal and there was a good attendance of parents and others interested. The races in both girls' and boys' events were keenly contested and the racing was well up to standard. Nine school records were lowered during the afternoon and one was equalled. The girls' senior championship was won by Betty Newton and the junior bv Jean Lambie, while the boys senior championship went to J. .Shier and the junior tn D. Smith. There was beautiful weather for the an until .swimming sports of the Timaru Boys' High School, which were held yesterday in the West End Baths. Two events have vet to be decided in the senior division, the 50 yards and 200 yards freestyle, and at present D. Bowie is leading with eight points, D. Elder being second with one point less, and G. Sara next with five points. 11. Pateman cannot be beaten for the junior championship, having 15 points to his credit. .7. Mnlholland and S. Watson are next, equal, with six points. Although he had not entered for the senior championship, Pateman won the 100 yards event in b's 2-osec. He had no serious opposition in the junior 100 yards race, which he won easily in 72 2-ssec. Had he not started in the senior race, it is considered that he would easily have beaten his own record of 69 3-ssec for the junior event. Nevertheless, he broke two Records during the afternoon. He swam in the 25 yards championship, which he won in 13 1-Ssep, beating the record of P. Collins, of 13 3-ssee, established in 1031. lie also beat R. There were keen contests iu all events, and the time for the 50 vards event—44sec—is very good tor primary schools. The head teacher thanked the officers of the Hornby Swimming Club, especially Mr A. E. Grubb, for assistance. and the members of the teaching staff for their willing support in supervising the pupils' swimming exercises.

PERFECT WEATHER FOR - ANNUAL SPORTS Perfect, weather was enjoyed l.v the girls of St. Margaret's College at their annual swimming sports, which were- held in the St. Albans baths yesterday afternoon. There was a largo gathering of parents, friends, and old girls, and keen racing and many close finishes were seen, the house and interform relays being especially exciting. The efficiency with which the programme was carried out was a credit to the students and the organising committee. METHVEN DISTRICT HIGH SCHOOL The annual swimming sports of the Metliven District High School were held on Thursday afternoon in ideal weather and before a large attendance of parents and friends of the pupils. There was a programme of 49 events apart from heats, and these were got off in good time. In the "long plunge" Clarice Fleming established a record for girls, with 41ft Tin.
