SUMMER SPORTS FIXTURES

♦ PROGRAMME FOR TO-DAY INTERNATIONAL ATHLETES AT LANCASTER PARK The international athletic meeting, at which the British and Finnish visitors will compete, is the chief sporting fixture for this afternoon and promises to attract a large crowd to Lancaster Park. In addition to this there will be cricket, tennis, swimming, rowing, and yachting events. The athletic meeting at Lancaster Park will begin at 2.15 p.m. with a parade of the competitors. The visitors will be seen in a series of invitation races over 220 yards, 440 yards, 880 yards, and two miles, and in several field events, notably the high jump

and throwing the javelin. Senior Cricket The Canterbury Cricket Association's competition will enter its tenth round to-day. The draw is as follows:—Lancaster Park v. Sydenham No. 1; Old Boys v. Riccarton, Hagley No. 1; West Christchurch v. Old Collegians, Hagley No. 2: and St. Albans v. East Christchurch, Hagley No. 3. Tennis Competition Final The chief event at the Canterbury Lawn Tennis Association's ground, Wilding Park, this afternoon will be the final of the A grade inter-club competition between Cathedral, which has held the shield now for several years, and Edgeware. The final of the C grade competition will also be played, and there will be a representative match between Christchurch A grade players and a team from the Malvern SubAssociation. Other matches will include the final of section 11. of the B grade competition and the final of section 11. of the D grade. Swimming, Rowing, Yachting The swimming fixture for to-day is a carnival to be held at the Hornby bath, and the rowing fixture will be the annual "novices' day" on the Avon. Bowls will be played on practically all greens. A race for yachts of 14ft and more will be held at Lyttelton for the Beryl Stacey trophy. The race is to be conducted by the Canterbury Yacht and Motor-Boat Club for the Canterbury Sailing and Power Boat Club, and is an inter-club contest. There will also be a race for Takapuna sailing boats, run by the Canterbury Club, for the Graham Cup.
