TWO HORSES SHOT DEAD
BRISBANE SENSATION (united riiE.ss assoui.viton' —by electric TELEGRAPH —COI'IfIUGHT.) BRISBANE, March 1. Two racehorses, Fernicmount and Fox Movietone, were shot dead in sensational circumstances in their stables. A man called on their trainer, G. Sullivan, and in response to his request was shown the horses. The man drew a revolver and shot both animals dead. Ferniecourt was the idol of Albion Par': racegoers, and interest in the eolt has been heightened in the last few months by litigation which prevented him from racing. This litigation arose from an application by Frank Morris, bookmaker, in whose name the horse was raced, for an injunction to restrain Sydney buyers and G. Sullivan, the trainer, from racing Fernicmount. The application, at present before the court, was adjourned until to-day. Morris, outlining what he considered to be his position in respect of the horse, said it broke his heart that a great horse like Ferniemount should be shot. "Everybody who knows me will understand my position," he said. WAIMATE R.C. MEETING OF COMMITTEE A meeting of the committee of the Waimate Racing Club was presided over by Mr G. McCulloch. Mr G. Reid wrote accepting the appointment of starter at the club's annual race meeting on April 4. The president reported that an inspection of the course and appointments had been carried out, and, although the tracks appeared in excellent order, there were several minor repairs required to the stands and railings. It was decided to carry out the work recommended. Mr J. Atwill was appointed as clerk of the scales for the club's meeting on April 4, and it was resolved to send a letter of thanks to Mr T. Wilce for his past services in this position. It was decided to support the nominations of the South Canterbury Jockey Club for representatives on the racing conference and the district committee. ...... '.
