AN ABNORMAL MONTH
* HOTTEST FEBRUARY SINCE 1916 FIGURES RECORDED AT OBSERVATORY Both rainfall and temperatures last month v/ere abnormal, according to the summary of meteorological data for the month i.-sucd by the Christchurch Magnetic Observatory. The rainfall was S3 per cent, below normal, bringing the total summer rainfall up to 1.85 inches, only 29 per cent, of the normal amount. The mean temperature for the month. (i3.!j degrees, was three decrees above the average, making the month the second hottest February recorded at the observatory in 33 years, the holiest being in 1916, when the mean temperature was C3.U degree;-. The recordings, in detail were as follows: Barometer —Mean for month. 30.081 inches; highest rending for month, 30.270; lowest reading for month. 26.0&O; extreme range, 0.683. Temperatures fin shade) —Mean for month, 03.5; highest maximum, 76.7: lowest minimum, 43.0: mean daily range, 13.!). Temperatures (exposed)— Mean maximum i'l sun, 131.?; highest reading, 14-1: mean minimum on grass, 50.6; lowest reading, 35.9. Moisture —Mean daily amount of cloud, 8.0; total rainfall for month. 1.0-1 inches; heaviest fail 0.31. Sunshine —Total sunshine for month, 15C.1 hours; mean daily amount, 5.58.
