SOUTH AFRICAN BUDGET
❖ CRITICISM BY MALAN PARTY CAPE TOWN, February 27. Criticism of the budget on behalf of the party led by Dr. D. F. Maian was voiced by Dr. N. J. Van der Merwe. He said wealth was being vested in the supertax payers while the country was being impoverished. Exports were falling while imports, m.rinly motor-cars, were increasing. Thirteen million nounds in postal savings compared unfavourably with New Zealand's £40,000,000. The budget rested on gold speculation instead of rebuilding economically on new tariffs and a tightened Empire economic ring instead of widening trade relations with other countries. Dr. Malan leads a section of the Nationalist party, which has held out on the question of fusion with the South African party. BARGAINS IN BOOKS. SALE OF GENTLEMAN'S LIBRARY.
