succeeded in gaining four, making the score 10—5. Smith recovered by drawing well, so that in the sixteenth head the score was again level 14—14. On the seventeenth Smith scored one and on the eighteenth lay two more, but Bandy, with his last bowl, took the jack with a fine trail and lay one. Score, 15—15. On the nineteenth Bandy lay two, but with his third trailed to Smith's back dowl. Smith drew another, which Bandy rested off, leaving Smith one. 16—15. On the twentieth head Smith drew three good bowls and Bandy failed to save, giving Smith a lead of four, 19—15. On the last head Bandy had to get four to tie, and almost succeeded. Smith failed to draw within a yard with his four bowls, and Bandy lay three, and just failed to draw the fourth shot with his last bowl, the game ending in Smith's favour, 13—18. As Bandy had two lives the two players meet again in the final. * • * The annual friendly game between United and Canterbury, inaugurated last year on the suggestion of F. J. Barlow, will be played on Saturday. It is not generally known that United is really an offshoot of the old Canterbury Club, and came into existence when it became necessary for the Canterbury members to move from their old precincts at the rear of the Occidental Hotel, and as the new site was not convenient to many, some of them became foundation members of United. • • * Canterbury Club's champion four comprises Paul, Hagger, Williamson, and Munn, but they narrowly escaped defeat at the hands of a rink of comparative colts, namely Elsom, Hearn, Taylor, and Paul. Munn was leading 13-3 at one stage, and remained on the fateful number whilst his opponents ran their tally up to 20. With a lucky wick he trailed the jack for five, and two followed by a single gave him a rather lucky win.
In the singles at Canterbury, Paul meets Haworth, Redpath meets Munn, and the winner plays Turpin, each having one life. * * # The annual match between Canterbury Club and the Licensed Victuallers' Association was played on the club's green on Tuesday, resulting in a win for Canterbury by 153 points to 143. Results were as follows. Licensed Victuallers' skips mentioned first: — Wallace, Brown, Sargent, Delargey, 26, Mcllroy, Heward, McNish, McAllister 15; C. E.
