"AlC i £. raain! >' devi.<.d to appeal to we ordinary public I believe they will
be found helpful and instructive by I the most advanced players." j Slow Motion Each film runs for 11 minutes. The I commentator is W. T. Tilden, and i Perry's opponent is Dan Maskell, the I Wimbledon professional and coach to rlie British Davis Cun Icam. Every I stroke in turn—forehand and Eack- ! hand, smash, drop. lob, volley, ser- • vice, and chop —comes under the • analytical eye of the slow-motion , csunera. and Tilden does not hesitate, j when the occasion demands, to explain . ih;jl Perry is playing a shot off the I wrong foot, or with a grip that may I be permissible to a master player, but \ cannot be recommended to a novice. His serious remarks and advice are as valuable as his "wise cracks" and asides are entertaining, and the whole series should prove vastly popular. Not the least illuminating aspect of the series is the fact that, although Hollywood producers have vainly offered Perry lucrative contracts to appear for them, British audiences will be the first to see him in action on the films.
II has been decided that the next picture for Mala and Lotus Long, seen in "Mala the Magnificent," will be "Typee." based on the novel by Whyte-Melville, author of "Moby Dick." W. S. Van Dyke will direct, and a great proportion of the film will be shot in the South Seas. Victor Herberts "Naughty Marietta," with Jeanette Mac Donald, Nelson Eddy, and Frank Morgan in leading roles, has gone into production at the Melro-Goldwyn-Mayer studios. The cast includes Mary Doran, Cecilia Parker. Edward Brophy, and Akirn Tarniroff, with W. S. Van Dyke directing.
