❖ ANNUAL CHAMPIONSHIPS EVENTS AT ST. ANDREW'S COLLEGE The pupils 'of St. Ainlivw's College held tlioir annual swimming spurts in the school baths yesterday. The weather was ideal, the- fields were large, and the large number of spectators saw some excellent linishes. Tlio senior championship was won by A. S. Blair, with D. Foote runner-up. These two boys divided practically all tlio first and second places. H. Vogan won tlio junior championship, with J. Kumbold run-ner-up, and N. Aekroyd won tlio championship for swimmers under 11 years ol age. Although no records weer broken, some good times were registered. CARNIVAL AT KAIAPOI To aid the funds of the Kaiapoi Beautifyins Association's queen contest, a very successful swimming carnival was held in tho Kaiupoi baths last evening in support of tho summer queen (Miss Petty Dixon). Excellent entries wero received, and some- close and exciting finishes wero witnessed. During the evening women members of tho Royal Life-saving Society, Cliristchurch, gavo a demonstration of the various methods of rescue from drowning. An exhibition of fancy swimming was given by Mr J. S. Macdonald, of tho East Cliristchurch- Club, who also swam an exhibition 50 yards in 27sec, and members of Cliristchurch clubs also gave an interesting exhibition of fancy diving.
