Bowls In the sectional final of the championship singles of the Rangioi-a Bowling Club, plaved last evening, A. E. Hawkins beat C. H. Hargraves 23-14. Swimming A decision to hold an evening carnival of mainly children's events on March 7 was made at a meeting of the committee of the Rangiora Amateur Swimming Club last evening. The president, Mr W. Johnson, presided. CHEVIOT. The winners of the Lord Bledisloe competition for the Gore Bay school sirl. and boy, collecting the highest number of leaves of different native shrubs was won by Shirley Wood •girls) and Ronald McClintock (boys). There was a fair, attendance at the Cheviot Hills range on Saturday afternoon. The second service competition, was to have been fired, but it was late in the afternoon before a start'could be made, and the service competition was postponed until a later date. A scratch snapshooting match and a sweepstake match were fired from the 200 and 300 yards ranges, the winners being C. Ogden and A. Williamson. To-morrow the eighth club competition will be fired from the 500 yards range. WOODEND The Woodend Old Scholars' Association held its annual meeting in the Public Hall on Monday evening. Mr W. Stalker presided. Mrs Leach was • lected an honorary life member of the association. The annual picnic will be held at the Woodend beach on Easter .Saturday as usual. AKAROA The annual meeting of the Akaroa Amateur Sports Club was held on Wednesday, when Mr L. J. Vangioni presided over a fair attendance. The balance-sheet showed a credit of £l6 14s Bd. HORORATA There was a large gathering in the Hororata Hall on Wednesday evening to say good-bye to Mr and Mrs Ingram and family, who are leaving the district to-day to reside in Christchurch. Mr and Mrs Ingram have been residents of the district for the last 15 years, and they have taken an active interest in the affairs of the district, Mrs Ingram being an active member of the Plunket Society and a church worker. .

The evening was spent in games and dancing, and Mr R. Felton sang a song, the accompanist being Miss Maffey. The Rev. L. N. Watkins, on behalf of the district, spoke of the regret felt at the departure of Mr and Mrs Ingram and their family, and in presenting them with a wallet of notes wished them every success in the future. Mr Watkins also presented Mrs Ingram with a crystal vase from the Anglican Church Ladies' Sewing Guild. Mr R. Oliver, on behalf of the Hororata Men's Hockey Club, then presented Mr Albert Ingram, a former member of the club, with a parting gift. Dancing was enjoyed to music played by Miss Maffey, Mesdames E. Fleming and Sedcole, and Mr Felton. Mr E. Fleming was master of ceremonies. Misses B. and K. O'Neil (Sumner) are spending a holiday with Mr and Mrs S. Gibson. Miss P. Melrose (Sumner) is staying with Mr and Mrs Gibson. TAI TAPU Miss Edna Macartney, organist of the Tai Tapu Presbyterian Church for more than five years, was the recipient of a presentation on Sunday evening. The Rev. G. Macrae spoke of the faithful service which Miss Macartney had always given, and presented her with a xylonite toilet set. Miss Macartney replied. The Tai Tapu Tennis Club has begun the handicap tournaments. In the first round of the women's handicap Miss M. Ryan beat Miss R. Dulieu, and Mrs C. Suckling beat Mrs D. R. Macdonald. Miss Brown won by default from Miss Steinmetz. The Tai Tapu branch of Nurse Maude's Association will meet in the Tai Tapu Hall on Tuesday, March 5, to make arrangements for the work lor the year. Mrs R. M. Morten will preside. PREBBLETON Mrs J- Yeatman is visiting her sister, Mrs H. Saunders, Leeston. YALDHURST At the monthly meeting of the Yaldhurst School Committee there were present: Messrs C. N. Anderson (chairman), A. Saunders, and T. Chappell (secretary). The teacher's report for the month of February v/as received and considered satisfactory. The roll number is 32. Accounts amounting to £5 Is 3d were passed for payment. LITTLE RIVER Mrs H. Marsh, who has been spending a holiday in Little River, has returned to her home in Timaru.
