MCLEAN HOMES VISITED
INSPECTION OF BOTH INSTITUTIONS SHORT TALK TO RESIDENTS One of the first official duties of their Excellencies on their arrival in the city yesterday was lo visit the two homes of the McLean Institute, "Holly Lea." in Manchester street, and "Quamby" in Fendalton. At both houses their Excellencies spent some time chatting to the residents. His Excellency mentioned at Holly Lea that it had been on his conscience that he and Lady Bledisloe had never visited the residents of the McLean Institute. Yesterday their time had been so limited that they had been obliged to refuse all but civic engagements, but tneir Excellencies had been determined to meet the gentlewomen in residence at both "Holly Lea" and "Quamby." Their Excellencies were met at "Holly Lea," which was first visited, by the Mayor, Mr D. G. Sullivan, M.P., and Mrs Sullivan. Members of the McLean Institute board who were present, included Mrs J. F. CracroftWilson, Mrs W. S. Bean, Mr George Harper, and Mr W. F. Hilson (secretary). Miss A. M. Armour, the submatron, conducted their Excellencies round the home. Miss R. Reed presented a bouquet to Lady Bledisloe from the residents. In a speech his Excellency paid a tribute to the memory of the late Mr Alan McLean and to his philanthropic work. He expressed regret that he and Lady Bledisloe were unable to spend a longer period at "Holly Lea." The residents were introduced to their Excellencies. At "Quamby," representatives of the board of the institute, with Matron S. Kitto, met their Excellencies, who were shown over the rooms and the spacious garden, and where Lady Bledisloe was presented with a bouquet. Lord Bledis oe wished the residents every happiness.
