VOCAL AND PIANO RECITAL
A vocal and piano recital will be presented by Miss Betty Hilliard, contralto, and Mr Noel Newson, pianist, on Saturday next at the Masonic Hall, Gloucester street, when Miss Hilliard will sing a Russian group, including the appealing dramatic solo, "Was I Not a Blade of Grass" (Tchaikowsky) and the poignant "Field Beloved" of Rachmaninoff. Included in the Schubert group will be "None but the Lonely Heart," "My Abode, and The Hurdy-Gurdy Man," while another group comprises "Slumber S° n % (from the Christmas Oratorio by Bach), "Cradle Song" (Frederick Delius), and a bright and interesting number of Mozart, entitled "A Warning. Among the Chopin selections to be played by Mr Newson will be taisie-Impromptu," "Nocturne in C minor," and "Ballade in G minor. There will be three Debussy numbers, including the "Prelude in A minor from Suite," "In a Gondola (Palmgren). two quaint Chinese selections bv Chasins, "Pastourelle" (Poulenc), and the brilliant "Flight oC the Bumble-Bee" (Rimsky-Korsakov), in the modern group. This programme should appeal to all music lovers, as it is full of variety and contrast. Tickets are on sale at music stores, and the box plan is now open at Begg s.
