BROADCASTING FINANCE
TO TBK EDITOR OF THE PRZSS. Sir,—ln Saturday's issue o£ "The Press" there appeared cabled information regarding the statement of accounts for last year of Ihe British Broadcasting Corporation, which ha.l just been laid before Parliament. This seems prompt work, and as \vc are supposed to be following the British lead, it is about time the New Zealand Broadcasting Board placed its figures for last year before the New Zealand members of Parliament.
One notable point was that while the building programme accounted for about £200,000, the programme expenditure amounted to over £900,000, nearly four times as much. Here is another British example which the New Zealand Board could follow in allocating its expenditure. Our members of Parliament are being asked to put through legislation affecting broadcasting. It would only be working on ••<immon businesslike lines for the members of Parliament to see last year's report and figures before dealing with the legislation, unless of course the report is considered to be of no value. The preparation of this report should havj involved nothing like that entailed in the case of the British Broadcasting Corporation.—Yours, etc.. MUSICAL. February 26", 1935.
