SUMNER CLUB COMPETITIONS DECIDED In aiiversa weather, tho Sumner LifeSaving Club's annual competitions were held yesterday. There were three events, the junior single-handed rescue, the senior single-handed rescua for the Ncwburgh Cup, «nd the Mayoral Cup, a senior three-man •vent. In the junior aud senior single-handed rescues tho conditions were the same except that in the senior event competitors were required to bring their patients back to the starting point by the tircmnn s lift., a strenuous task after a swim of 150 yards through the surf. The arlunl time taken was a big factor in iheso events, but übility io rebUßcitation nlsu playod a bip part. Thero was comparatively little surl running durinff the day, but thero was a alifiht set to tho north. The official* were- Judges, Messrs J. AL. Mitchell, D. M. Richardson, L. Sutherland, aud W S'. Hurford; Messrs N. G. Winter, C. 11. Mcl'hail, J. Quaine. aud L. Jacobaon. Junior Competttiou There were throe competitors in tho jun* ior competition —J. Sarclius, B. fc»t»'vens, and J. Blaekmore. Tho judges praiaed the work of J. hareliuH, thn winner, who Mas dehnitely superior m both land and water work. Blaekmore was ilrst to reach his patient. All tho patients wero tnkou out by the club catamaran. Tho finishing order on tho return to tho shure r and the final order in tho competition, wa«: J. Sarelius, 7nsin .. 1 B. Stevens, Hmin Msec .. 2 J. 11. Blaekmore, Omin I7sec .. 3 Senior Competition In the senior competition the competitors were K. J. Lowry, E. Cooper, S. G. Henry. L. Sutherland, and K. J. Harriott. Lowry was tho first to reach his patient, followed* by Cooper, Henry, Sutherland, and Herriott. Lowry increased his lend on tho return journey, aud crossed the flushing 50 varda ahead of Henry, who was 1U yards ahead of Cooper. Sutherland was close behind. Tho results were: K. J. Henry. 7min 3iJsoc . • Mayoral Cup in tho Mayoral Cup a ballot was taken for tho positions o( linesman and reel. Tho teams »n their order of entering the writer were;- —Ij. Sutherland (belt), i»« Itoberts (line), and S. Garduer (reel); K. J. Lowrv, N. W. Hawkins, and A. J. Sandom; S.* G. Henry, H. it. Stevens, uud J. C. Quano; K. J. Herriott, H. Cooper, and F. Clark; E. Cooper, J. M. Frongley. and J. Sardine. Conditions could scarcely have been wurso when Sutherland's team took the water. There wa? a piercing easterly and intermittent showers of rair. Sutherland, who has many jjood performance* in tho belt, strangely enough, had tho slowest time o( 4min 4see. The time,-> ot the other beltmen were: K. J. l.owry Hmin oilsec, K.
