CHRISTCHURCH CLUB OPENS SEASON A. E. G. RHODES BOWL With two cards of 6 up—and one of these was not eligible for the competition—and a total of only 12 scores out of a field of 66 better than bogey, itcould scarcely be said that the form displayed at Shirley on Saturday in the competition for the A. E. G. Rhodes Bowl was good. And yet it is a long time since the fairways have been in such good order, as the effects of the watering scheme are already becoming manifest. The greens were very tricky as the pace varied, not only from green to green, but also on the same putting surface. It is proposed now to delay work on the watering in the far paddock, and to get the greens and tecs back into proper shape. The early starters found the greens still wet and slow, but they had the best of the weather, as it was calm and dull when they set out. Later in the day a stiff north-east breeze sprang up, and the short holes in the second half played with a following wind were puzzling. The scores were:—
