A WELLINGTON OFFER.
''A 'Doubting Thomas' in Wellington has made an offer that may be regarded as a challenge to the people of Christchureh,'' Mr S. W- Jameson, chairman of the Street Appeal Committee, told a i'nES9 reporter last evening. ' , This' influential "Wellington citizen, said Mr Jameson, had intimated that if the .suni aimed at by the committee, £ISOO, was reached, he would subscribe a further £SO himself. The gentleman had added that he considered the committee were rather optimistic in expecting to raise this amount, and that he thought his >tfer a safe one. ALL NATIONS FAIR. MEETING OF EXECUTIVE. It wan reported to yesterday's meet--itii; of the -executive of the All Nations Fair that arrangements had been completed fur tile street collection to tic field to-day. Mi.ss .Niblock had no doubt that, the collection would be a great success.
It was reported that an old lady of about "JU years had presented a knit Led woollen doll made bv her to be sold on behalf of the collection. Another gift made was a , model yacht, the donor being an elderly, man who appeared to be in. straitened circumstances.
.Reporting on behalf of the Ladies' Executive, Mrs. Cecil Wood stated that the Chinese community of the City would be pleaded to conduct a stall. Appreciation of the offer was expressed by the committee. It was reported that satisfactory progress was being made by the various committees in charge of attractions at the Fair. The sports meeting, promised to be a great success. The Canteiburv Amateur Athletic Association would present a bright programme of events. There >vould also be Highland dancing, wood cboppitig competitions, and other items' on the programme. . It was decided to request P«a,n Julius to open the Pet Show to be held in connexion with the fair.
Bishop Brodie brought up tlie question of approaching the Churches -with a view to their taJiing up a collection, to assist the funds. It was decided to consider the matter.
