BOROUGH COUNCILS

' RANGIORA. The monthly meeting of the Rangiora Borough Council was held last night.' The Mayor (Mr W. A. Rowge) was in the chair. Also present. Ors. R. Mcintosh, J. A. Ivory, J. 0. Scott, 0. W. Ty.ler, H. K. Kippenberger, R. R. Gillanders, F. E. Martyn,- J. F. Sutherland, and T. t T, Hendren. The town clerk, in presenting his report, stated that the rates- struck for the year ending March 31st. 1932, Were £5019 6s 7d, Rnd the amount paid to date was £4668 16s 3d. Last year the amount struck was £5334 19s 3d. The amount paid was £4670 12s Bd. The Feilding Borough Council wrote asking the support of . the Council in requesting the Government to grant boroughs of a population of 6000 or over the same concession as is given to- County Councils in remitting » percentage of rates. It was agreed to support the recommendation. The sanitary inspector reported haviilg inspected 11 sewer connexions, 11 new drain permits, and 13 c plumbing permits. • The St. John Ambulance Association wrote thanking the Council for its grant of £3. The Returned Soldiers' Association were granted the use of the X own Hall for the Anzac Day service instead of the Park if the Weather was wet. . The recommendation • of the Works Committee that the town clerk report on the cost of hire of a. sprayer for rqads was approved. - It was decided to call for tenders for dressing sheds at Dudley Park. "in accordance with notice of motion, Cr. Hendren moved that in view of the fact that the cost of living has now been reduced; the salaries and wages of the Council's employees b© reduced by TO per cent., the reduction to. take effect from April Ist. After a long discussion the motion was adopted. • . Accounts amounting to £3259 lGs 6d were passed for payment.
