anniversary op death. The memory of the lit. lie v. John Joseph Grimes, S.M., D.D.,-the first Itoman Catholic Bishop of Christchurch, is still revered by his priests and people. The Catholic Cathedral in Barhadoes street, which is a monument to the energy and ability of this great bishop, was filled yesterday on the occasion of a Requiem Mass on the seventeenth anniversary of his death. His Lordship Bishop Brodie was celebrant, and the Rev. Thomas Hanrahan, [issistant-priest, the Very Rev. Fathers J. P. O'Connor and A. Burgen, S.M., were Deacons to the Throne, the Rev. Fathers G. Daly and A. Keane. S.M., Deacon and Sub-Deacon of the Mass i espectively, and the Rev. Father P. Tjnioiiey Master of Ceremonies. A choir of priests sang the Mass, tli'e cantors being Rev. Fathers J. Hanrahan and P. Joyce.
