RANGIORA. A motion of sympathy with the widow of Bro. W. Scoon was passed at the meeting of the Loyal Rangiora Lodge, M.U., 1.0.0. F., on Monday night. Two new members were initiated. Bro. J. Cooke was congratulated 011 his elect-ion as District Grand Master, and the deputies to the district conference received a vote of thanks for their services. During the weeK-end a friendly tennis match was played between the Rangiora and Akaroa Clubs on the Rangiora courts, resulting in a win lor Akaroa by 61 games. The results were as follows (Rangiora names given first): Men's Doubles—F. W. Jull and L. Currie lost to J. N. Waddell and W. McClure, 2-0 and 4-6; A. H. Palairet and J. Rapley lost to W. McClure and F. Lewthwaite, 1-6, 3-6; R. W. Ellis and L. P. Devlin lost to A. Hemmingway and G. Le Lievre, 3-6 and 4-6; T. H. Blain and J. Morris lost to A. Hemmingway and 0. ROTHERHAM. The first round of the Rotherham Tennis Club's handicap tournament has been completed. Last Saturday afternoon the Rotherham and "Waiuu Croquet Clubs wero the guests of Mrs Dnmpier-Cross-ley, "Cranford," Rotherham, for a croquet afternoon. Several friendly games were played. AMBERLEY. The sum of £25 10s 3d was realised as the result of the sale of jxippics ;il the Amberley Ewe Fair. BALCAIRN. There was a large attendance at St. John's Anglican Church, Balcairn, on Sunday evening, when the Eev. E. E. Maiden preached a special sermon, the occasion being the annual harvest thanksgiving service. The church was beautifully decorated with greenery and flowers. There Was a fine display of fruit and vegtables, which have since been forwarded to St. Saviour's Orphanage, Christchurcli. Miss E. Hurley was organist. The recent rains should be of great benefit to pasture land, as well as the rape and turnip crops. Nearly all the wheat is threshed and out of the paddocks. In most cases the yields were above expectations, and the quality was good. The leap year dance proved enjoyable. The music was supplied by the Sefton Jazz Orchestra, while extras were played by Misses A, Eitzpatrick and Carroll. Monte Carlo waltzes wore won by Messrs E. Coleman and Dando and partners. Messrs D. Crossen and J. Smith were M.C.'s.

GLENROY. The annua! Methodist harvest thanksgiving service was held in the hall on Sunday afternoon. There was a good congregation, and special harvest hymns were sung, Mrs \V. E. Dennis being the organist. On Monday, instead of the usual social and sale of produce a "drive" to augment the church funds was organised throughout the district, when a satisfactory collection of sheen, poultry, wheat potatoes, garden produce, etc., was received. MARSHLAND. The presentation of trophies won at the athletic meeting took place in the public hall. The music lor the dance was supplied by Wells's Orchestra. At the conclusion of the presentation of the trophies, Mr Chisnall, on behalf of the Tennis Committee, presented the winners of the tennis tournament with their respective trophies, which had been given by Mr It. H. Monk and Mr W. M. Clark. The winning set was Les Wilson and Lloyd Palmer, and the second, Mrs Les Wilson and Arthur Jacob. Mr Chisnall, on behalf of the members of the Sports Club, presented Mr Wilson with a fountain-pen. WEST MELTON. The harvest thanksgiving service in connexion with the West Melton Anglican Church was held on Sunday evening. The Bev. G. ,W. Christian preached to a large congregation. The church was decorated with grain, fruit, and Dowers. The offering of fruit, vegetables, eggs, and jam has been forwarded to St. Saviour's Orphanage. ! HALKETT. There was a good attendance at the fortnightly Anglican Bible Class meeting held on 3'londay evening. The Rev. ,G. W. Christian delivered a short address, after which a social was held. A competition was won by Miss Joan Davis. The harvest thanksgiving service in connexion with St. Matthew's Church was held on Sunday afternoon, the Rev. G. W. Christian preaching to a large congregation. Miss C. Christian was the organist. The produce has been forwarded to St. Saviour's Orphanage. SPRINGSTON SOUTH. Harvesting operations are nearly completed. Most fanners have finished threshing, with the exception of peas. Mills are busy with this crop at present. The harvest thanksgiving service m connexion with the Methodist Church was held in the Springston South Hall on Sunday afternoon. Mr Dingwall, of Chris'tchurch, was the preacher. The building was decorated with fruit, flowers, vegetables, and produce, which were sent to Springston to be sold at the sale of produce. ,

LITTLE RIVER. A cricket match played at Little River on Saturday between Akaroa and Little River resulted in a draw. Little River went in first, and scored 275 runs. R. Harrison made a brilliant 83, wliiclx included two sixes and 10 fours. Others reaching double figures were Jock Coop 24, C. Withers •22, T. Masker 21, C. Steans 20, Max Coop 19, J. McGowan 18, and A. Hutchinson 13. Akaroa went in and made 178 lor nine wickets. The best scorers were O. Eves 44, B. C. Arnold 32, R. Bruce 15, not out, R. Masefield 11, T. Masefield 10. The Little River Croquet Club A. team journeyed to Akaroa on Saturday, when a return match was played. An enjoyable day was spent by all, Akaroa being successful in winning all the games. LITTLE AKALOA. A team of tennis players from the Duvaucliolle Club paid a visit to the local club ou Saturday. Tho final score was 110 games to 115, in favour of the home team. SOUTHBRIDGE. The monthly meeting of the Southbridge Town Board, held on Monday r.ight, was attended by Commissioners J H. Hampton (chairman), M. Maw, J. C. Hampton, A. J. Beamsle'y, T. H. Bennett, and W. Ml Nidd. The chairman reported that the bank credit was about £l3O and that the rates outstanding totalled £SO. If the Main Highways subsidy came in there would be a credit at March 31st of about £230. It was decided to sow in grass the land surrounding the Town Hall. The Health report stated that no cases of infectious disease had been reported from South bridge for the last n:onth. Members were pleased to note that the district had retained its reputation for healthiness. Complaints were made concerning the condition of a water-race running through properties from Hastings street to Taumutu road, and it was decided to have cleaning done. The inadequacy of the supply of fire hose was pointed out and it was agreed to purchase 300 feet of hose for the Fire Brigade. A very enjoyable social, arranged by the Southbridge Tennis Ciub, was held in the Parish Hall as a wind-up to ♦ lie 1931-32 season, which has been a successful one for the club. Cardplaying and dancing took place, Miss Alexander supplying the dance music, Dr. Hunt assisting with an extra. Mr A. Chapman was M.C., and competition prize-winners were: Ladies, Mrs W. Lilley 1, Mrs J. Williamson 2; men, Mr Voyce 1, Mr J. Hannah 2. Two cups for singles competitions, the finals of which were played on Saturday, were presented to the winners, Miss M. Hintz and Mr H. Hickman, by the president, Dr. E. W. Hunt. The cups were given by the patrol], Mr A. J. Inwood, and the'winners received minjature cups as permanent mementoes. Local anglers have lately secured good catches of quinnat salmon in the Itakaia, one fisherman landing seven in a, day. A notable feature with regard to the quinnat caught up to the present is the unusual proportion of very large fish, several 35 pounders having been landed. After hearing an address from Mr David Jones on the pooling of exchanges and a free exchange, a meeting of Ellesinere farmers and business men carried the following resolution unanimously:—That this meeting of Iplesmere farmers and business men declares itself unreservedly in favour of a free exchange and the abolition of the present compulsory system of pooling of exchanges.

LINCOLN. Under the auspices of the Lincoln Athletic and Cycling Club, a road cycle race was held on Saturday evening. Six starters competed: T. Ellis (scr), H W. Bennett (2min), J. God»ey, W. Hamilton, E. Maddbck (3min), h. Thomas (3imin). The course was from the square to the school corner, to Smith's corner, to College corner and back to the square, three tunes round, 10 miles 1 . Result: Bennett 1, Hamilton 2. Bennett and Ellis tied for fastest time. A tyre howling race for children was also run. Result: Morris Moody 1, Arthur Hopley 2, Ray Moody 3. HORORATA. On Monday the harvest festival in connexion with the local Presbyterian Church was continued, when a social evening and sale of produce was held in the public hall. The Rev. Mr Boyd presided. A programme was given, as follows:—Pianoforte trio, Pearl Hight, Joyce McKenzie, and Marie Keltic; song, Sunday School children; dual recitation, I'. Barrett and D. Yeates; song, Sunday School children; pianolorte solos, Mrs D. K. Boyd; songs, Mr Sea lev; recitations and. songs, Mr F. Bull; vocal duet, Misses Bates and Rennie; songs, Misses Rennie ami Bates; vocal quartet, Mrs Scaley, Miss Rates, Messrs Bull and Sealey. The snle of produce (which was conducted by Mr W. A. Nelson) and the social evening realised between £ll and £l2. Miss Smith and Miss Annie Smith (Rangywa) are spending a lioliday with Mr and Mrs E. Clucas.
