- ' ■ S3-;, il'Si. PS Wt 9 svets r OUR PRICES ARE DOWN TO STAY r r r r r A STATEMENT BY MR. J. L. HAY, MANAGING DIRECTOR OF HAY'S LIMITED. I have no hesitation in saying that this is the most important announcement we have made since we commenced business. We have endeavoured to tell you as simply and sincerely as possible that something revolutionary has taken place in the selling policy of our Store. It is an honest effort on our part to meet the difficult times through which we all are passing, by substantially reducing the selling prices of our goods. Notwithstanding the fact that in the past we have been noted for our low prices, we are convinced that the times call for even lower prices. I feel sure that the increase in turnover that will result from our new policy will compensate us for the loss of profit that our new policy involves. or following reasons we *re in a position to carry out our new policy:— 1. We sell for cash only, and thus eliminate big office staffs and , bad debts. 2. Our premises are located in a low rental area—although very handy to a main thoroughfare—and we thereby are saved large sums in rent, rates and taxes. 3. We possess unique buying resources, which enable us to obtain our goods at rock* bottom prices, direct from the Manufacturer. 4. There are no expensive services or fitments about our store, the cost of which, in the usual w£y, is added to the price of the * goods. . Our policy will remain si heretofore, and may be summarised as follows: 1. Freedom to inspect our goods without any obligation to buy. _ 2. A fixed price to all, marked in • plain figures, and no deviation allowed. 3. Money cheerfully refunded, or good* exchanged, if in any way they proVe unsatisfactory. 4. Courtesy and attention to all by every member of the staff. 5. Stocking New Zealand-made goods wherever possible. * <1 I I I r r ? r r - Managing* Director. TO-DAY, at 9.30, a new era in shopping commences. Alone Hay's have done it. It would have been utterly impossible to bring about such a gigantic re-organisation without closing the Store, as we did from Saturday until to-day. Everyone will get a shock a pleasant one, to see the amazing changes that have been made. The whole arrangement of the Store has been altered in order to save customers needless steps. By removing the reserves to the floor above, all buying! can now be done on the ground floor, quickly and conveniently. But the boldest step of all is the drastic move to bring down the cost of living. The times in which we live are exceptional, and call for a complete change of policy. Lowered incomes must be met by lowered prices, and Hay's are now giving a definite lead in this all-important question. We now ask you to visit our re-modelled Store £ judge for yourself as to the accuracy of this advertisement. Only after you have satisfied yourself as to our values do we hope for your support A few examples of our values are given here. They are but representative of thousands more. Come and see them TO-DAY* i ORGANISATION not for just a period sort you'll get here '■m ■ Our Hay's League will be continued as usual, notwithstanding our ravised prices. For the benefit of those who are not as yet jnembers of our League, we may say it is a movement whereby cash bonuses may be earned by saving our cash discount coupons. Any assistant will give full particulars. For those who do not have the ready cash to pay for a garment or article, we have a " lay by " system. By paying a deposit equal to 20 per cent, of the value of the article, you can have it reserved, provided the full amount >s paid within a month. Our very low margin of profit does not permit of the free delivery of goods. When delivery is desired it can be arranged, for 3d a parcel within a radius of one mile from our store — Gd beyond that. -• + 1" * ' ' A certain few lines of goods, such a* \ - / Pyramid Handkerchiefs, Speedo Bathing ' " ' Costumes, etc., have been bought by us on the understanding that they are sold at a fixed price. These will be sold as hereto-, fore, as we feel we cannof honourably depart from an undertaking we have given in respect of these goods. In this announcement we. of course, can give you only some idea of the prices of a' fraction of the.extensive stocks we carry. Large quantities of new goods are now opened, and we suggest a personal visit to our Store, so that you will be able to see our full range.
