IN POSSESSION OF OPIUM.
CHINESE FINED £SO. (FRBSS ASSOCIATION TKLEQBAM-) WELLINGTON, March 15. Discovering that a parcel addressed to a Chinese contained opium, Post Office officials communicated with the police and when a Chinese claimed and was given possession of the parcel he walked right into the arras of a detective waiting outside for liim. The parcel w?is addressed to R. Lum, care of Peter Chan, and was posted at Auckland. The Chinese who collected the parcel, Kwok Dick Hing, aged 26( failed to prove that he was in innocent possession, and a fine of £SO \yas imposed. Security for an appeal was fixed at the amount of the fine, plus 10 guineas..
