Savill, who, with Mr Savill, is leaving for England this week, was made the recipient of a presentation on Friday evening by the women members of the Bridge Club at the new Church House. Those present wished Mr and Mrs Savill a pleasant voyage. I A dance was held in'the Hanmer Hall on Saturday night by the K. and T, Social Club, a pleasant evening being spent. Tlie Hanmer Orchestra provided the music. The Hanmer Fire Board held its monthly meeting in the lire station oil Thursday last, Mr Jas. Maiison presiding. It was decided to purchase working uniforms for members of the brigade. A gift of £5 was received from the Health Department for serj vices rendered. Mr H. Glass will leave this week 'for Sydney for the opening of the harbour bridge. The contractor for the new Lodge will complete his contract this week. Th' 6 furnishing is now being expedited and it is hoped to have everything ready for Easter: over 150 guests have already booked their rooms. The Golf Club played the finals in the championships during the weekend. The morning's play finished with Mr A. Reid, the present champion, in the lead, 3 Bp. Jn the afternoon Mr G. Pullev mtide up the leeway at the fifteenth* hole, after which Reid won the sixteenth hole. The other two holes were halved, leaving Reid the winner, I UPThe Anglican Church held its usual harvest festival on Sunday evening. There was a large attendance. The produce will be sent to St. Saviour s Orphanage. The church was decorated. The Rev. G. Jardine, at present Presbyterian minister at Cheviot, is taking overthe Hanmer charge at the end of the present month. The Rev. James Geounell will leave at the end of the month to take charge at Seacliff and Wnrtftigton. WAIAU. A social gathering of the Lyndon settlers was held in Mrs R. McKie's woolshed on Friday evening. The woolshed had been decorated for the occasion and there was a large attendance. A programme of musical items was given by the Presbyterian Church choir, and Misses Gardiner and Casserley and the Rev. E. B. Moore also sang solos. Mrs G. White and Miss Edna Powers were the accompanists. During the evening short addresses were delivered by the Rev. J. Newlands and the Rev. E. B. Moore. The music for the dancing was supplied by Mrs White, Miss Edna Powis, and Mr Harrison. • The annual meeting of the vyaiau Football Club was held in the Library Hall on Saturday evening, when Mr H. W. The social club held its annual meeting on- Tuesday. The balance sheet Bhowed a credit of £3O. It was decided to hold fortnightly socials during the winter months. The Leithfield Tennis Club held a social on Friday. Competitions were won by Mrs W. Quail, sen., Miss Jamieson, Mr Haydon Rhodes, and Mr Robert Judson. The Monte Carlo waltz was won by Miss Hunter and Mr Gordon Smith. The music was supplied by Miss Fitzpatrick, and Mr W. Russell was M.C. Harvest thanksgiving services were, held in the Anglican and Presbyterian Churches on Sunday. Both churches were decorated with flowers and wheat, and there was a display of vegetables and fruit, which are to be forwarded to St. Saviours and the Presbyterian Orphanages. WOODEND. To show their respect for their old schoolmaster, Mr H. Gillmun, who has retired, his ex-pupil* entertained him at a social on Friday evening, and presented to him and to Mrg Gillman a pair of seagrass chairs and a pretty cushion. Most of the evening was spent in dancing. Misses Peacock and Maddison and Mr Perry _.sang solos, Miss Moody gave a recitation, and Mr J. Gtibbs selections on ; tlie; niouthorgan.;'The lucky spot waltz was won by Miss Dempster and partner. Mr \V. Whitlow was Master of Ceremonies and Mr D. Shea the . pianist. [ OURUHIA. I The Ouruhia cricket team had a win on Saturday. J. Steero and L. Stead, whose combined total was well over 100, were the outstanding batsmen for the Ouruhia team. On Tuesday last the Ouruhia Basketball Club held its annual meeting. Four new members were elected. The election of club officials for the year 'was as follows:—Captain, Joan Wilson; vicc-captain, Rona. McMillan; secretary, Jean McMillan. The secretary was instructed to write to the Ouruhia Park Committee regarding the reservation of a basketball playing area at the park. At Tuesday's meeting of the Ouruhia School Committee, reference was made to the excellent manner in which Mr C. Chencry. had carried out tho work of topping the trees of tho (shelter belts in the playground. On Friday evening, members of the Marsblarid-Ouruhia Boys' and Girls' Agricultural Club, together with others interested in potato-growing, gathered m the Ouruhia School, when Messrs C. C. A harvest thanksgiving service was held in the Presbyterian Church on Sunday afteinoofi, when the Rev. D. K. Boyd was the preacher. The church was decorated with fruit, flowers, and vegetables. At the close of the service Mr Boyd presented the following Sunday school children with their annual prizes:—Don Yeates, Pearl Hight, Mavis Butt, Marie Keltie, Joyce Hore, H. TAI TAPU. A pleasant evening was spent in the Tni Tapu Ifall on Saturday, -when an entertainment was held in aid of the Tennis Club funds. The winners of the competition were Mrs Wills and Mr T. Newall. A tennis match was played at Tai Tapu on Saturday afternoon between tho Tai Tapu and Lincoln Clubs, which resulted in a win for Tai Tapu by 13 sets to 11 sets, and 118 games to 108. In the cricket match, Sheffield A versus Coalgate, held at Coalgato Domain on Saturday last, Coalgate proved tho winners. Coalgate, batting first, made 134 for sis wickets, Sheffield replying with 50. Bowling for Coalgate, honours were divided between McCaughan and Knox; and for Sheffield, L. Wright and J. Gunn were most successful. LINCOLN. The annual picnic of the Lincoln | Parisli was held at Coe's Ford on Saturday afternoon. Many people from all parts of the parish were present.
