RACES AT NEW BRIGHTON. PIONEER CLUB'S ANNUAL MEETING. The finish in the latter race was the best of the day, and a thrilling race up the last straight between Viggers, Banliy, and Hunter resulted in a win for the nrstnamed by no more than a wheel. Thomas, came up fast in the third lap. passing the greater part of the field. Hunter came into the final straight in the lead, and Thomas passed Nelson on the corner. Willmott Maintained his lead from the limit until well into the second lap, when he was passed by Brown. Meechen, third for the first mile, went back slowly. Hunter was ahout two lengths back. Mulholland led in the third lap, with Willmott second and Hunter third. Ranby gained the lead at the first corner and gradually increased it to about .10 yards until the end of the fourth lap, when his machine gave him trouble. Mangham, who was. riding second, shot past him to obtain a long lead. Carpenter also passed Ranby in the fifth lap and raced 150 yards behind Mangham, with Ranby half a lap back. Mangham maintained a steady lead,' and did not look like losing. In the eighth mile Carpenter's machine failed him, and Ranby went up to second, remaining, however, a fall half-mile behind Mangham.
