Very stormy conditions were met with in the Tasman Sea by the large clectricallydriven oil tanker Brunswick, which arrived at. Auckland from Los Angeles, via Sydney and Newcastle, on Wednesday afternoon. The storm delayed her arrival by thirty hours. She was duo at Wellington on Staurday night or yesterday morning. The Brunswick sailed from Newcastle on March 3rd. and experienced fine weather until Sunday night, when she was about 200 miles from New Zealand. Afterwards she was beset by a hard east-south-east gale and very high head seas, against which she was unable at times to progress at more than two knots an hour, compared with her normal speed of eleven knots. For forty-ei§ht hours the tanker was buffeted by the storm, and her deck was repeatedly swept by the waves which broke on board, but did hot do any damage. The storm was accompanied by fierce squalls and continuous torrential rain, and difficulty was experienced in sighting the land owing to the low visibility. On' Tuesday evening, four hours after the tanker had passed the North Cape, tho gale abated, but a very high sea*apd high swell continued until the shelter of the Hauraki Gulf was reached.
