EWE AND RAM FAIR.
GOOD YARDINGS AT METHVEN. ENTRY OF 14,000 SHEEP. 1•; The .iuiuuttl ewe and ram. igir was held iu the Methven Sale-yards ou Friduy. The entry was approximately 14,000' sheep, practically the same number as yarded last year, but there was a drop in the number oi station sheep yarded. The llakaia Gorge rims surplus stock was very lightly represented in many cases, while others liad.no sheep penned at all. However, there was a fairly good selection oi owes, Qn offer, these including many lines from outside the district. On the whole the yarding was well up to the average of other seasons. The sale was attended by a large number ol buyers, and practically the whole oi: .tho offering was sold. _ Although there were numerous passings at auction, many of . these lots were afterwards disposed of privately. The top price of the sale was two guineas ' for 22 shearling English Leicester ewes. for registered ewes,.while for fjock ewes Mr H. J. Freeman, Highbank, secured 19s 6d for a particularly- nice pen of halfbred ewes. This breeder also topped last year's fair with the same class of sheep at 19s 9d. Another Une .of nice quality twotobths made 19s, while Mr A. IV Marr, Methvqn, sold a pen of 64 two-tooth fine three-quarterbred ewes at 18is. Other pens of two-tooths of the same type made 15s 3d to 16s, while in the three-quarterbred class the values were from 14s 9d to los 3d. In four and sixtooth three-quarterbreds prices ranged from 12s to 14s 6d. Four and five-year-old -station ewes from 8s 3d to lis, while five-year-old ewes in lighter condition made from 5s <>d. There, was a large yarding of all breeds of rams. As si result of the large entry many rams were passed and a good number turned out unsold. Sales Recorded. Sales recorded were as follows: .
