RIFLE SHOOTING.
CHRISTCHURCH CLUB. The Christchurch Defence Bifle Club journeyed to Tai Tapu on Saturday afternoon to fire the lir.al long-range competition, but owing to tho high wind it was impossible to work the large targets. A short-range sweepstake was held with ten shots at 300 yardß and seven shots at 500 yards, the lonsrange competition being postponed until Saturday next, March 19th. CASHMERE MINIATURE CLUB. There was a large attendance of members at the eighteenth annual meeting of the Cashmere Miniature Rifle Club. The club captain, Mr J. L. Ragg. presided. The report showed that the club had had a most sueetstful season in 1081. Besides winning the sonior competition in the Christchurch Miniaturo Rifle Association winter tournament for the secon-1 season in succession, it also won the New Zealand Miniature Rifle Association Tisdal] Cup competition from over 30 teams competing from all over the Dominion. Othor successes were obtained at Timaru and Ashburton meetings. A rote of sympathy was extended to Mr A Tongue, the president of the club, who had undergone a serious operation and was now on the road to recovery.
