MAYOR'S FUND. The Mayor's Relief of Distress Fund is in urgent need of gifts of warm clothing for men and boys. Gifts may be left at the Borough Council Chambers or the Building Society's rooms. Seamen's Institute. An excellent entertainment, arranged by Mrs C. J. Treleaven, of the Christehurch Guild, was given by the Navy League helpers in the Seamen's Institute on Thursday evening. The programme was as follows: Pianoforte soloe and musical monologues, Mrs McEachin; songs, Mr A. Taylor; recitations, Master Fowlds; glees, choruses, and sea chanties, the Navy League Glee Party; violin solos, Miss J. Ormerod. Mrs was the accompanist. The Rev. C. Maclavert.y thanked the artists, and supper was served. Over 50 men were present. Excursion. The Lyttelton Social Club will hold an excursion to Greymoutli and Hokitika on March' 27th. Mail Thefts. Not content with breaking open a letter-box, thieves prized a- complete telephone outfit from a box in Lyttelton a few nights ago. About twelve letters had been posted in the box and those not containing money were replaced. The post-box in Governor's Bay was rifled on the same night.
