PERSONAL. (SPECIAL TO THE PEES 9.) GREYMOUTH, March 11. Mr and Mrs E. M. Sheedy are visiting Grcymouth. Mr W. Garth, who has been attending the Band Contest and National Shooting Championships, returned from Wellington yesterday. Mr and Mrs W. Roberts, who havo been on a visit to Ashburton, returned yesterday. Mrs S, J. McKeen arrived last evening from Auckland on a visit to her mother, Mrs L. W. Louisson, Greymouth. The Rev. David Calder, of the British and Foreign Bible Society, is visiting the West Coast. The "Rev. Father P. O'Meeghaa (Ahaura), who has been for an extended tour abroad, arrived in Wellington from San Francisco on Monday. He~was accompanied by Misses K. and B. O'Meeghan. Mr C. Oxenham (Hamilton) is visiting his mother in Grcymouth. Mr J. Robertson, Assistant Secretary of the Post Office at Wellington, wliq ' is been visiting the West Coast, left yesterday for Westport. Timber Shipment. The Kalingo, which sailed on Thursday from Greymouth for Sydney and Newcastle, carried a full load of J.,123,000 super, feet of white pine. Captain John Benton, who is master of tho Kalingo, was master of the Omana when sho sailed from Greymouth with the record cargo for the port, 1,300,000 super, feet of timber, on August 26th. 1923. Good Butter Output. The output of butter for tho Golden Coast Dairy Co., at Reefton, for February was greater than for the same month last year, by 19,4291b Tenpence per pound was paid out for but-ter-fat, £2603 being distributed among the BuppUors.

Scrub Fire. A scrub fire broke out in the riverbed of the Inangahua river at Eeefton on Wednesday. Some workmen had been employed in cutting scrub and broom, and during their absence the scrub was set on fire. Being dry it blazed furiously endangering the nearby buildings, which escaped owing to the wind changing at a critical period. Magistrate's Court. A sitting of the Magistrate's Court was held on Wednesday at Westport, Mr W. Mcldrum, S.M., presiding. William Sutherland claimed from D. G. H. Wishart, of DeDniston, £2OO general and £96 Is 4d special damages and Wishart counter-claimed £l5O for general damages and £75 for special damages. The action arose out of a collision which occurred between Sergeant's Hill and Fairdown last August, the former driving a car and the latter riding a motor-cycle. The Magistrate in giving his decision reviewed the evidence, which showed that plaintiff had been on his right side of the road, and had only one light showing, the motorcyclist, Wishart, had been in the centre of the road. The evidence of the plaintiff would bo accepted, and judgment givfen for Sutherland for £IOO general and £96 Is 4d special damages, with costs. Valedictory. Miss A. Mitchell, of the Westport telephone staff, who retired from the service on Wednesday, was met by the Post and Telegraph staff, and presented with an afternoon tea-set, a set of crystal glasses, and a jug to match. The presentation was made by Mr A. Hopkins, Supervisor of the Telegraph Department. Fire Board. The Hokifika Fire Board's annual meeting was held -last evening, the chairman, Mr A. E. Elcock, presiding, lie was re-elected chairman for the ensuing year. The Hokitika Fire Brigade wrote asking authority for the issue of service medals. Tho request, was granted. The Superintendent reported that an, inspection of the Brigade, had been made by Mr Girling Butcher, Inspector of Fire Brigade:*, who was satisfied with both the Brigade and the pressure from the Kate? eupglj;, . j

Beach Trawling. • ' Trawling from* Arahura Beach on Wednesday night, a party landed over five hundred flounders. Cytithag. The body of William Dent, aged 65 years, was found in a ditch'in a vacant section near his residence in Massey street, Frankton, this afternoon.
