Hurricanes on the Baltic Sea in January brought great quantities of amber ashore along the East Prussian Coast. Ir. the vicinity of tlie*bathing resort of Cranz alone, over 70(f pounds were picked up. Large quantities" were also found at other places along the coast. Not since January, 1914, has such a Btorm been experienced on the Baltic. All amber mined,, dredged from the sea, or washed ashore in Prussia, belongs to the State, and must be handed over to the "Preussag," a Stateowned company. Some 80 per cent, of all the world's amber supplies cornea from East Pxuesia,
