LIFE-SAVING. To-morrow at South Brighton the North Beach Gala Trophy will be decided. This event carries with it the beltmau's championship. The Sumner Club lias entered two teams, as follows: — No. 1 team —L. Sutherland (belt), .1. M. Frengley (line), 33. M. Richardson (reel). No. 2 team—N. G. McPhail (belt), F. Clark (line), and O. G. Wood (reel). It is expected that the club competitions will be held shortly. They arc three in number and comprise the junior singlc-lmndcd rescue, the senior single-handed rescue (Newburgh Cup), and the Mayoral Cup, a three-man event. Bowling. In the final of the second life of the champion singles, Forrest beat Peek, and in the final of the champion pairs Lawson and Martin beat Barton and Hampton. Tennis. Additional games played during the week resulted as follows: —■ Men's Doubles —R. 11. Neville and 11. A. Bishop (—ls) beat P. D. Patcrson and M. Wiggins (plus 15), 0-4, 6-3. Women's Doubles —Mrs J. Brooke and Mrs C. Dawe ( —3-0 15) beat Mrs N. H. Barlow and Miss M. Browne ( 15), 6-4, 7-5. Mixed Doubles—Mrs Brooke and G. A. Webb (—ls 3-6) beat Miss M. Browne and E. T. Salvcson (plus 3-6 15), 7-5, 6-0. . Women's Championship Singles. Semi-final —Miss N. Bishop beat Mrs Brooke, 6-3, 3-6, 6-4. Arrangements have now been made to play the annual inter-borough match against New Brighton at New Brighton on April 2nd. Bowing. Now that the season's programme of regattas has been concluded, members of the Sumner-Redcliffs Club are concentrating on their own competitions. One or two races will probably be rowed this afternoon and the Nicholson fours will be decided next week. The club is holding one of its series of dances in the Community Hall this' evening. Hockey. 1 Both the liedcliffs Ladies' Hockey Club and the Redcliffs Club will be holding their annual meetings next week. Athletics. The final meeting of the season of the Sumner Amateur Athletic Club will be held at St. Leonard's squaro this afternoon. An -attractive programme has been arranged and at the conclusion of the meeting the championship cups v will be presented. Good Templars. The weekly meeting of the Sumner Pride was presided over by Lro. M. Lawson, 0, !• Sister Sweney from the Hope Lodge was accorded a welcome and in reply traced her connexion with the Good Templar movement. The programme for the evening was arranged by the V.T., Sister 1. Wislang, and comprised a "parcel S am !?> and a cake competition arranged by the S.J.W. aroused a great deal of uitGOne new member was initiated. Sister G. Gibson was reported to bo still in hospital. Methodist Church. • The Rev. A. T. ' The annual report of the Sumner As- , sociation Football Club states: — j "An enjoyable season was experienced 3 in 1931, and although the senior eleven did not do so well as was expected in , the competition, the majority of the r defeats were sustained by the narrowest r of margins.
