MOTORING.

SOUTH ISLAND UNION. A lmlf-yearly meeting of delegates to tho South Island Motor Union was hold yesterday. The'president (Mr/>F. W. Johnston) ■was in the chair, arid delegates present were: Messrs-W. E. Wilkes and H. C.. Harley (Nelson Automobile Association); R. P. Furncß3 and R. V. Bythell (Marlborough Automobile Association); Sir Arthur Dobson; Messrs L. M. Wilson, M. C. Kennett, and R. Falck (Canterbury Automobile Association), G. Henderson, F. P.Sprosen, (T. A, Hayinan, and A. Donaldson (Pioneer Sports Club), G. A. Furby (Ashburton Motor-Cycle Club), W. T.. Ritchie (South Canterbury Auto. Association); F. A. Furby (South Canterbury Motor-Cycle Club), W. Goddes and G. A. Manchester (Waimate Automobile Association), J. W. Petrio and W. Gillies (North Otago Motor Association), J, L. Passmore, G. T. Thorn, W. F. Sutton, S. G. Kirby (Otago Motor Club), D. J. Wesney and J. R. Haigh (Southland Motor Association), A. Donaldson. (Southland Motor-Cycle Club), W. L. Minsoii, W. R. Carey, F. W. Freeman, J. S. Hawkes, and J. L. Danks (Executive Committee). Messrs E. A. Batt and W. G. Walklcjr, representing the North Island Motor Union were also in attendance. .A motion was carried to the effect that the Government be urged to complete tho Kingston-Queenstown road this winter, it being understood that tho work could bo done by unemployed. It was that the Main Highways Board be requested not to pay a subsidy to any local authority employing an inspector at present subsidised by tho Board if that inspector wears a uniform similar to the Automobile Association patrol. The Pioneer Sports Club wrote with regard to slow-moving vehicular traffic keeping to the crown of roads, stating that this led to inconvenience, delay, and frequently danger from other faster traffic travelling simultaneously from both directions. The matter was referred to the executive with a recommendation that it should confer with the North Island Motor Union. In the evening delegates wore entertained at a screening of a film depicting Otago and Southland views.
